Dr. Mandy Medvin, ¾¨Ó㴫ý professor of psychology, and Dr. SoYoung Kang, adjunct education faculty, will present "Stress and Coping: American and South Korean Preschoolers" Wednesday, March 21, at 11:40 a.m. in McKelvey Campus Center's Sebastian Mueller Theater.
Very little is known about how young children cope with potentially stressful situations. In their study, Medvin and Kang presented children from the U.S. and South Korea with four normally-occurring scenarios and asked the children how they would respond in each.
Medvin and Kang will share how their comparisons of the children's answers provide insight into cross-cultural patterns of socialization.
Medvin, who holds the Gibson-Drinko Endowed Chair and serves as chair of ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Department of Psychology, joined the faculty in 1992. She earned an undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and Ph.D. from the University of Washington.
Kang, who has been affiliated with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2007, earned an undergraduate degree from Korea University and master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee.
