¾¨Ó㴫ý

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Dr. Jamie G. McMinn, ¾¨Ó㴫ý associate professor of psychology and interim director of Adult & Graduate Studies, gave two presentations at the annual convention of the American Psychological Association July 31-Aug 4 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In a symposium presentation titled "The Psychology Capstone in the Liberal Arts:  Connecting to National Trends in the Psychology Core Curriculum," McMinn described ¾¨Ó㴫ý's psychology capstone model, highlighting links to a national core psychology curriculum and to assessing student learning and programmatic outcomes. 

The final component of liberal studies at ¾¨Ó㴫ý is the senior capstone course, which is at least a four-semester-hour course within the major designed to provide an opportunity for students to evaluate and assess the strengths and limitations of their major field.

McMinn also was lead author on a poster: "Case Study Teaching in Social Psychology: Applying Social Cognitive Concepts to a Human Tragedy."  This poster, using the scholarship of teaching and learning method, presented data on students applying social cognitive concepts to people's responses to the homicide of a young Brooklyn boy.  The case study helped students to maintain their learning of social cognitive concepts across time, although some concepts remained difficult for them to explain or apply.

McMinn, who joined ¾¨Ó㴫ý in 2003, earned an undergraduate degree from Emory & Henry College and master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
