The ¾¨Ó㴫ý chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national co-ed service fraternity, is sponsoring a "hair drive" Saturday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the student lounge of the McKelvey Campus Center to benefit children with cancer.

"We will have professional hair stylists available to give free haircuts," said Tracy Blount, a sophomore environmental science major from Edinboro. "The hair will be donated to an organization that makes wigs for children suffering from medical hair loss. Any length of hair can be donated, but anything shorter than 10 inches will be sold to benefit Locks for Love rather than be made into wigs."

"We will have a contest between the sororities, fraternities and the independents to see who will have the most participants," Blount continued. "Pizza Joe's has generously offered to buy a plaque to place on campus that will have the names of the winners. The contest is for the most inches of hair donated for girls and the most heads shaved for the guys."

Alpha Phi Omega also plans to have at least one message therapist to relieve any tensions associated with the loss of hair.

"This is the first time we have held a hair drive, however, we hope to make it an annual event," Blount concluded.
