Nelson Oestreich, former ¾¨Ó㴫ý art professor, and Carrie Triko-Widener, a 1986 ¾¨Ó㴫ý art education graduate of ¾¨Ó㴫ý, will display their work together at the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Art Gallery, Sept. 29-Oct. 24. The gallery, located in Patterson Hall, is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday, noon-9 p.m.
"Oestreich's is a restless spirit," said Dr. James Perkins, professor of English and longtime friend. "Now he brings us large wood sculptures imagined out of tree trunks with a chainsaw and a chisel. These figures make us smile. That they display whimsy and playfulness as well as skill and imagination should not surprise us. Oestreich's work, whatever the decade, whatever the medium, has always been, in part, an energetic celebration of the thoroughly laughable nature of most human endeavor."
"I am painting under the name of Carita,' my Christian name," said Triko. "The reason is that under the painting of Sterling Rose' in this show is Carita" a self-portrait that I painted over 15 years ago at ¾¨Ó㴫ý. I am focusing on bold color, and how the single flower works on the negative space of a background."
A Gallery Talk is scheduled for Carrie Triko-Widener Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
