Required Quarantine for Students from Specific States

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing today with challenging news regarding your arrival to campus. Late last week, the announced a required 14-day quarantine for individuals traveling to Pennsylvania from the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. According to our records, your legal home permanent address is located in one of these states. As such, you are required to quarantine upon arrival to Pennsylvania whether you are a residential student or living off campus.

I hope that your summer is going well and that you are looking forward to classes resuming this fall. As you likely have seen from President Richardson’s communications and ¾¨Ó㴫ý’s social media, we plan to welcome you to campus next month. Classes will not necessarily look the same in the fall as they have in previous semesters, and so I wanted to give you a sense of what to expect as we make adjustments related to the COVID-19 virus. Revised Move-In Dates (Updated 6/12/20)

Last week, you were notified of our adjusted academic calendar and were promised move-in information as soon as possible.  At this time, I want to provide you  with a set of move-in dates for different student populations; additional detailed schedules will be provided by the end of June.
 
Our priority is to establish a move-in schedule that follows State guidelines and keeps students and their families healthy and safe.  Just as move-out was scheduled and highly controlled, Fall 2020 move in must be as well.  Students will be assigned move-in times on their respective dates. You will be limited to 2 guests to help you move in, and you must be prepared to follow posted physical distancing requirements.  Again, the detailed schedule will be communicated by the end of June.
 
Students can expect their scheduled move in time to coincide with these general move-in dates:
 
Resident Assistants: August 2 (Training August 3-9)
Orientation Leaders: August 8 (Training August 9-12)
Select Fall Athletes* August 10
Marching Band: August 11
New Students: August 13 (Orientation August 14-16)
Returning Students: August 14-16
 
* Men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball

In-Person Instruction to Resume for fall 2020

I am pleased to announce that we plan to resume in-person instruction and residence life for the fall 2020 semester. Lawrence County will enter the “green phase,” the least-restrictive phase of Pennsylvania’s reopening plan, on Friday, May 29.

It’s been what feels like decades since I’ve written, but it is time for me to begin regular weekly communication with you again. Over the next few weeks, I will be sending emails each Friday with updates and expectations for a successful Fall semester. We are really looking forward to having you back on campus. We are also very clear about what it will take for us to be able to do so and to remain open for the duration of the semester. ¾¨Ó㴫ý will need to rely on the “We” like we’ve never done before. This means that each of us will need to do our part – follow the policies we’ve carefully crafted to keep everyone safe and healthy and provide support to one another. Community is what we do well. Community is why you chose ¾¨Ó㴫ý. And community is what will make this work.

Students earn degrees from ¾¨Ó㴫ý

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, ¾¨Ó㴫ý in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, postponed its traditional spring commencement ceremony. Instead, degrees were awarded to more than 200 students in a virtual degree conferral ceremony on Saturday, May 9. Seventy-five students earned Bachelor of Arts degrees, 115 earned Bachelor of Science degrees, four received Bachelor of Music degrees and 10 received Master of Education degrees.
