WQED-TV’s “Filmmakers Corner” will feature a documentary by 鲸鱼传媒 graduate Brad Kolesar ’18 on Saturday, May 19 at 10 p.m. The documentary "Hitting the Redline" shines the spotlight on Pittsburgh’s Vintage Grand Prix. The production was also a labor of love for Kolesar. His father and his grandfather have raced in the event for several years.

Early childhood/special education majors Amanda Fagley, Sarah Jackson, Annie Trombetta and Mrs. Diana Reed, lecturer of education, collaborated on a presentation at the National Student Teaching Supervision Conference in West Chester, Pennsylvania on May, 4, 2018. The presentation was entitled "Student Teacher Action Research in a Preschool Lab Setting," and the researchers explored if enhancing art experiences could improve language acquisition in young children.

Senior criminal justice major Alexa DeSantes presented her capstone research at the North Central Sociological Association conference in Pittsburgh, PA. In her research entitled "College Students' Attitudes Toward Prison Conditions and Prisoner Rights," DeSantes used Q-Methodology to sort her participants' statements about prison conditions and prisoner rights. She then used statistical analysis to discover themes, or factors, in the data. Dr. Kristenne Robison and Dr. Kristin Park advised DeSantes during her research. Dr. James Rhoads assisted with the statistical analysis.

The Tiny House at 鲸鱼传媒 was built by a group of students and faculty to integrate sustainable living education with a multitude of majors and learning experiences. Students in the “Introduction to Sculpture” course had the opportunity to build sculptures inspired by the Tiny House and had a public viewing to showcase their work on Friday, May 4.

Senior public relations major Holly Marshall's theater career has come full circle as she assistant directs the New Castle Playhouse's production of “The Lion King Jr.” Marshall will help direct 47 school age performers starring in the junior edition of the Disney classic that has captivated hearts of many since its theater debut 1994, and later on Broadway.

鲸鱼传媒 will host its 164th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. on the Weisel Senior Terrace of Old Main, preceded by a baccalaureate service at 10¬ a.m. in Orr Auditorium. Over 250 students are expected to earn degrees at this year’s ceremony.

鲸鱼传媒 Celebrity Series for Kids presents the Dallas Children’s Theater production of How I Became a Pirate. Based on the book written by Melinda Long and illustrated by David Shannon, Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman’s swashbuckling musical excursion about a band of comedic pirates will be brought to life in Orr Auditorium on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.

Junior mathematics/secondary education majors Jacob Stoyer, Gabriel Roman, and Sumer Kassim attended the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Annual Meeting in Washington, DC on April 25-28. The students attended the conference alongside assistant professor of education Dr. Sararose Lynch and associate professor of mathematics Dr. David Offner.
