¾¨Ó㴫ý's SIFE Team Earns First Runner Up Award

¾¨Ó㴫ý's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team earned the First Runner Up Award at SIFE's New York City Regional Competition.

¾¨Ó㴫ý was pitted against the strong competition of Ohio State University, Columbia University, Brooklyn College, and Northwest Missouri State University.

"The professors of ¾¨Ó㴫ý's Economic and Business Department congratulates its SIFE team on its First Runner Up Award," said Tom Rosengarth, associate professor of accounting and chair of the department.

Mardi Gras Coming to ¾¨Ó㴫ý Feb. 4

Mardi Gras is coming to ¾¨Ó㴫ý Friday, Feb. 4, from 6-8 p.m. in the Witherspoon Rooms in the McKelvey Campus Center.

This year's royalty is Queen Tara Timpano, a senior sociology-criminal justice major from Rochester, and King Eric Cortez, a junior biology major from Ellwood City.

This family-oriented event features carnival booths, caricaturists, a balloon artist, a strolling magician, and mask decorating, as well as the king and queen giving beads to all.Ìý The event is followed by fireworks at 8:05 p.m.

Wayne Hoffman, an illusionist, will perform to a college-oriented audience at 8:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

Broadcast Professors to Discuss ¾¨Ó㴫ý Radio and TV Advances

Dr. David Barner, associate professor of broadcast communications, and Bradley Weaver, instructor of broadcast communications, will discuss the advances in ¾¨Ó㴫ý's radio station at Faculty Forum Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11:45 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater located in the McKelvey Campus Center.

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý radio station, WWNW, 88.9-FM, can now be heard on the Web at .

 "Now our programs can be heard by Titan sports fans anywhere in the world, and parents of broadcasting students can hear their children on the air without having to drive to campus," Barner said.

The station is also using the new Web address as a means of distributing local news.  By going to the Titan radio Web page, users can choose local news stories many with sound and video.

 "Creating news stories for the Web positions our students for the future," said Weaver said.  "The major news media are all extensively using Web technology."

 Barner is also the chair of the Department of Communication Studies, Theatre, and Art.  He has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 1981, earned his undergraduate and master's degrees from Shippensburg, and his Ed.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.

 Weaver, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý college since 2000, earned his undergraduate degree from Alderson-Broaddus College and his master's from the University of Kansas.

Barner and Weaver's presentation is part of the weekly Faculty Forum.  Established in 1990, Faculty Forum serves as a venue for the exchange of ideas and information among ¾¨Ó㴫ý faculty.  Speakers present their research, teaching ideas, lectures, performances, special programs, and uses of technology to keep faculty informed about the work of colleagues from many disciplines.

Presbytery to Install New ¾¨Ó㴫ý Chaplain

The Shenango Presbytery will install the Rev. James Mohr as the fourth Chaplain of ¾¨Ó㴫ý Sunday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.
