¾¨Ó㴫ý Degrees Conferred Upon Class of 2004

Bachelor degrees were awarded to 257 students at ¾¨Ó㴫ý commencement service Saturday, May 22.

Students graduating with highest honors, summa cum laude, maintained an academic average of at least 3.9 out of a possible 4.0, while students graduating with high honors, magna cum laude, and honors, cum laude, maintained averages of at least 3.7 and 3.5 respectively.

College Honors were awarded to 13 students.Ìý This special honor is given to those students who choose to pursue projects that go beyond the regular course work in an effort to develop the students' capacity to initiate and complete meaningful projects in their major field of study.

An additional 52 students participated in the commencement ceremony as either previous graduates or provisional graduates "" those who received diplomas earlier than the annual May commencement ceremonies, or those who are sufficiently advanced so that graduation before the end of 2004 is possible.

Education Professor Presents Papers at Conference

Dr. William Evans, associate professor of education at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, recently presented two papers at the Pennsylvania School Counselor Association Western Regional Conference.

 "'Creating Shades of Gray with Black and White Thinkers' was a skill development workshop aimed at developing specific counseling skills that can be used with problematic black and white or dichotomous thinking with students," Evans said.  "'Don't They Get It? Understanding the Dynamics of Children and Families from Poverty' explores the behaviors, values and attitudes that families and children bring to the school environment that may be at odds with the middle class values upon which most schools operate."

 Evans, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2001, earned his undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University, his master's from Youngstown State University, and his Ph.D. from Kent State University.

¾¨Ó㴫ý will host Susanna Reilly and Matthew McCright together in concert Saturday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

The program of music by Beethoven, Franck, and Rachmaninov features Reilly on the cello and McCright on the piano.
