¾¨Ó㴫ý education majors Corinna Neely, Ashley Rexrode, Kevin Rush, and Amanda Ventrone, and Dr. Robin Lind, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, recently presented sessions at the Pennsylvania American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) held at Bucknell University.
ÌýThe students presented, "How to Start or Revitalize a Student ACDA Chapter."
Ìý"The students presented an excellent session and each one spoke about a different aspect of the advantages of belonging to a professional organization such as ACDA while in college," Lind said.
ÌýLind presented a session on "Choral Intonation: Tuning the Text."
Ìý"Ashley Rexrode assisted me at the piano for this presentation," Lind said.Ìý "I discussed how the pronunciation of vowels and the articulation of consonants affect the intonation of a choral ensemble.Ìý It is not uncommon to overlook the importance of the pronunciation and phrasing of the text in choral music when working on intonation.Ìý I presented several ideas and suggestions that I have developed and used with my own ensembles at ¾¨Ó㴫ý."
ÌýRexrode is a daughter of Dayle and Linda Rexrode, Farmington, and a graduate of Lighthouse Christian Academy.
Ventrone is a daughter of Michael and Cynthia Ventrone, Apollo, and a graduate of Penn Hills High School.
ÌýNeely is a daughter of Steven Neely and Jean M. Hlivko-Neely, Sarver, and a graduate of Freeport Area High School.
ÌýRush is a son of Terry and Emily Rush, Rimersburg, and a graduate of Union High School.
ÌýLind, who has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2000, earned her undergraduate degree from Albertsons College, her master's from the University of Oregon, and her Ph.D. from the University of Utah.

Alexandra Mikhaylova, a senior financial economics and international business major, recently received the Frances L. Lewis Memorial Scholarship and the Laura E. Elden Education Trust Scholarship.
This $1,370 scholarship, funded by The Pittsburgh Foundation, was applied to her final tuition payment for the 2004-2005 academic year.
"We are grateful to the Frances L. Lewis Memorial Scholarship and the Laura E. Elden Education Trust, and The Pittsburgh Foundation for their support of bright, motivated students like Ms. Mikhaylova, who represent the future of our region," said Gloria Cagigas, vice president for institutional advancement at ¾¨Ó㴫ý.
In 2003, The Pittsburgh Foundation, the 15th largest community foundation in the nation, awarded more than $24 million in grants to charitable organizations.Ìý Established in 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation is comprised of more than 960 funds established by organizations and individual donors.Ìý These funds range from $10,000 to more than $32 million, and have a combined market value of approximately $537 million.
Mikhaylova is a daughter of Mariana Mikhaylova, Monroeville, and a graduate of
Gateway High School.

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning will host an education seminar, "Best Practices for Math Literacy: Comprehensive Strategies that Produced a Culture of Math Achievement in the South Fayette School District," Monday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. in Lakeview Room located in the McKelvey Campus Center.
The Best Practices for Math Literacy workshop features several educators from the South Fayette School District, which has been recognized as having one of the highest overall math achievement levels on the PSSA in Western Pennsylvania over the past three years. The District team, which includes elementary, middle, and high school teachers, will share the district's vision and strategies around curriculum, instruction, and assessment that insure all students meet proficiency in the area of mathematics.
The Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning was developed to advance world-class teaching at ¾¨Ó㴫ý and enrich K-12 education through outreach programs for area educators.
The event is sponsored by the Tri-State Area School Study Council Department of Administrative and Policy School of Education of the University of Pittsburgh in collaboration with the Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at ¾¨Ó㴫ý.

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Brass and Woodwind Quintets will perform a concert Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.

More than 260 students from 14 area high school and junior high schools competed in the district competition of History Day at ¾¨Ó㴫ý Tuesday, March 27.
The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Planetarium presents "The Explorers of Mauna Kea," a 35-minute multimedia show that explores the heavens of Hawaii, Oct. 24-26 and Nov. 1-2, at 7 p.m. in the Hoyt Science Resources Center room 116.
More than 480 ¾¨Ó㴫ý students earned a listing on the Dean's List recognition for the 2001 fall semester.
The Dean's List recognizes students who attain a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a possible 4.0.

Dr. Elizabeth Harrison, assistant professor of music at ¾¨Ó㴫ý, will give a Lenten organ concert Tuesday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Orr Auditorium.

The ¾¨Ó㴫ý Jazz Ensemble will "Strike up the Band" Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Berlin Lounge of the McKelvey Campus Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
¾¨Ó㴫ý will host an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration with a free concert and fireworks Thursday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Brittain Lake.
