College to Host Community Thanksgiving Service Nov. 20

¾¨Ó㴫ý Hosts Field Trip for Fifth-Grade Hermitage Students

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - ¾¨Ó㴫ý faculty, staff and students hosted a field trip for fifth-grade science students from Hermitage Elementary in May at the Hoyt Science Center. Students attended four different activities during the trip, each having to do with a different science field.

¾¨Ó㴫ý Offers Several Relaxation Opportunities for Students Taking Finals

¾¨Ó㴫ý offers students several opportunities to relax during finals. 

The schedule quickly filled up for the message therapist who will be at the Student Health Center Monday, May 10 and Tuesday, May 11 from noon to 3 p.m.  

"As always, we have the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Relaxation Room, equipped with a lava lamp, soothing New Age music, and an easy chair that radiates heat and vibrates," said Judith Duda, director of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Health Center.  "We also offer other relaxation activities, such as guided imagery and healthy snacks in our waiting room."

Reading Day concludes May 11 with a late night Cram Jam from 9-10:30 p.m., featuring scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, bagels and cereal.  With a background of relaxing music, students are served by various faculty and administrators, including President R. Thomas Williamson.  The event is sponsored by Sodexho Dining and Catering Services.

¾¨Ó㴫ý to Host "Impressions of Chinese, 2000"

Dr. Ronald Helms, social studies secondary education director at Wright State University, will present "Impressions of Chinese 2000" Thursday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lakeview Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.

"I encourage everyone to attend this presentation," said Dr. Linda Domanski, assistant professor of education at ¾¨Ó㴫ý.  "The discussion will focus on several Chinese cities, the Chinese educational system, and the current Sino-American relationship."

Helms is the author/co-author of eight books and over 75 educational articles.  He offers over 16 international presentations, as well as numerous national, state, and consulting presentations.  He is a trained National Board for Professional Teacher Standards (NBPTS) facilitator and the principal investigator at Wright State University for several NBPTS grants to work with teacher candidates.

Helms has received the Excellence in Scholarship Award and the Service Excellence Award from the College of Education and Human Services of Wright State University.  He was also recently awarded the Excellence in Technology/Communications by Sister Cities International.

¾¨Ó㴫ý's Mortar Board Raises Money for Literacy

Members of the ¾¨Ó㴫ý Mortar Board, a junior and senior leadership and service honor society, raised $215 for a "Reading is Learning" project.

 Each year, Mortar Board collects donations to choose the ¾¨Ó㴫ý "turkey."  This year's candidates included: Dr. Neal Edman, dean of student affairs; June Pierce, registrar; Robert Latta, director of financial aid; and Beth Brooks, executive secretary for student affairs.  Brooks took the honor of being turkey for this event.

 This year's costume was made by Amanda Tanner, a junior biology major from Eldred, and other members of Mortar Board.
