Dr. Andrew Ade, assistant professor of English, and Dr. John Robertson, professor of biology, will join Kamis Ley, a recently returned volunteer, to discuss their experiences in the Peace Corps Thursday, March 3, at 7 p.m. in Phillips Lecture Hall located in the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

"As part of  National Peace Corps Week, we want to invite the community to a free informal evening presentation on our Peace Corps experiences," Ade said.  "Come and hear about working in underdeveloped countries that need you."

Ade, who served 1981-1983, was a teacher at a high school in the central savannah region of Kasai Occidental in Zaire, which today is the Democratic Republic of Congo.  He also worked as an in-country Peace Corps teacher trainer.  Ade has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2003.  He earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, and his master's and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Robertson, who served from 1982-1985, was a fish culture extension agent, helping farmers build, manage, and harvest fish ponds in the Kisii District of southwestern Kenya.  Robertson has been with ¾¨Ó㴫ý since 2000.  He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts, his master's from the University of Rhode Island, and his Ph.D. from Arizona State University.

Ley, who served from 1999-2002, was a small animal husbandry volunteer in Coteaux, Haiti.  She worked with the local veterinary agents in conjunction with both  NGO ACLAM/World Concern and Heifer International.  Among her projects was "A Ewe for You," a sheep project for students in the local Baptist school.  She also worked with solar ovens and other general agricultural education.

"Ley recently completed her volunteer service and returned to her home in Mercer," Ade said.  "She has agreed to join us with her own presentation and to answer questions on what's happening now in the Peace Corps."

The event is free and open to the public.  For more information, contact Ade at (724) 946-7349 or e-mail adeaw@westminster.edu.
