¾¨Ó㴫ý and Duquesne Enter Articulation Agreement

¾¨Ó㴫ý and Duquesne University recently entered into an articulation agreement that benefits students seeking a degree as a physician assistant.

"The articulation agreement is for students who are interested in careers as physician assistants," said Dr. Ann Throckmorton, chair and associate professor of biology at ¾¨Ó㴫ý.  "It will put students on the fast track to an advanced degree in that field.  Under the agreement, students will spend three years at ¾¨Ó㴫ý followed by three years at Duquesne.  At the end of their first year at Duquesne, students receive a bachelor's in biology from ¾¨Ó㴫ý.  At the end of the six years, they receive their advanced degree, a masters of physician assistant.  Traditionally those degrees require seven years of school, so this is a great opportunity for students who are interested in finishing school and starting their careers quickly."

¾¨Ó㴫ý has similar articulation agreements in physical therapy, environmental science management, pre-law, and occupational therapy with Duquesne University, and dentistry with Case Western Reserve University.  ¾¨Ó㴫ý's 3-2 Engineering Program has agreements with Pennsylvania State University, Case Western Reserve University, and Washington University.

International Film Festival Presents French Film

The Jake Erhardt International Film Series continues with "A Very Long Engagement" Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater located in the McKelvey Campus Center.

"Based on the popular novel of the same name by Sebastian Japrisot, this French film stars Audrey Tautou as the young woman in search of her fiancé who has disappeared," said Dr. Deborah Mitchell, associate professor of English and public relations and coordinator of this event.  "Set in France around the end of WWI, her fiancé is one of five French soldiers who shoots himself to avoid the Somme trenches.  The performances are excellent, as is the anti-war message."

The International Film Series is named in honor of its founder, Dr. Jacob Erhardt, professor emeritus of German at ¾¨Ó㴫ý.  Erhardt, who taught at ¾¨Ó㴫ý from 1968 until his retirement in 2004, served as chair of his department from 1970-1986, was named the Language Educator of the Year by the Pennsylvania State Modern Languages Association, translated into English Robert Reitzel's Adventures of a Greenhorn, and was recognized by the National Endowment for the Humanities as an outstanding member.

The event, which is part of a ten-film series, is free and open to the public
